Today's Verse

I grew up in a Baptist household, my dad being an Independent Baptist pastor. Since Dad started churches in Texas, we moved several times. I lived most of my childhood in Salado, Texas, though. While I spent my first couple of school years in a Christian school, I made a profession of faith when I was young, although I do not remember it. What I did remember was a dream I had of getting saved. For years I thought this had been a reality!

Thinking I was a believer, I tried to live the Christian life in my own strength. This doesn't work! Without the Holy Spirit indwelling me, my heart grew desperately wicked.

By the grace of God, I ended up at Bible College after High School. In every class the Bible was opened and we were taught from the living Word of God.

Being saturated in this powerful Word I began to realize my desperate situation. I finally admitted that I was truly lost without God. After repenting and calling upon His name, God saved me. From that day forward my whole life changed.

As I studied the Bible and Christian Education I also began reading biographies of Christians.  I knew that I did not want to spend the rest of my life warming a church pew.  I wanted to be someone's help meet, have a lot of children and teach them.  I was determined to marry someone in the "full-time service" of the Lord.  Where was he??? (Not where I was, at the time!)

After graduating from college May of 2000 and moving back home I continued to read books, including missionary biographies. I developed a strong desire for the mission field, but was still open to whatever God chose to do with my life. Not long after this was when I met Joshua Leise. It was the evening we met that God showed me what my future held, and three days later He confirmed it.
